Neighbor to Neighbor | Mission

​Neighbor to Neighbor is an outreach project that includes picking up and receiving donations of furniture and household items and then distributing them to families and individuals in need. We deliver to all the Durham Housing Authority communities, as well as to families who are moving from shelters to homes (including those sponsored by Families Moving Forward) and those referred to us by various individuals and groups. A major new initiative is completely furnishing homes for refugees coming to Durham who are being sponsored by Church World Service.

• Used items should be gently used, clean, and fully-functional
• Smaller items may be dropped off at Duke Memorial on Sunday mornings or by appointment
• Use the "Donation Pick-Up Request" online form for all Furniture & Large item donations

Donate Funding

Funding is needed to support the ongoing operations such as storage space, fuel, and materials, for Neighbor to Neighbor.

Volunteer

There are many ways that you can help support the ministry of Neighbor to Neighbor. 
Volunteers are always needed. Contact [email protected] to sign-up.

Organizer

Sort and organize household items in storage and process them for delivery.​

• ​2-3 hour shifts between 10am-3pm
• Also option for at-home sorting

Mover

Load and unload items on the moving truck. 

• Mondays/Tuesdays
• Be able to lift & move heavy items

Stager

Set up apartments and houses for incoming refugee families. 

• Opportunities vary by need
• A few days to a weeks notice
• Sign-up to get notified

Coordinator

Coordinate furniture donation and deliveries.

• Use a computer to access our online lists
• Use a phone to schedule pick-up/delivery
