Welcome to the New Members of the Ministry Team!
Garrett Rocha | Minister of Spiritual Formation & Witness
I am Garrett Rocha, and I am coming to you from the Tampa, Florida, area, where I have been serving as Limona Village Chapel UMC’s pastor. I am originally from New Jersey went to Florida Southern College, where I first met my wife, Laurel. Laurel and I got married in October of 2016 after beginning my first appointment. She is about to receive her Ph.D. in Philosophy from the University of South Florida. We are also expecting our first child at the end of July! Laurel and I love spending time together with our dogs Ace and Fox, cooking, playing board games with friends, woodworking, and being outdoors. We love to discover new places to eat and get to know the community. I am excited to be your Minister to Spiritual Formation and Witness because my passion is engaging with the community, spreading the Gospel message to new people, in new places, and in new ways, and deepening our faith through discipleship. What drew me to Duke Memorial was the church’s commitment to inclusion. It is a blessing to be part of a church family that exemplifies embracing diversity in how they worship God and serve their sisters and brothers.
Eliza Stewart | Minister of Youth
My name is Eliza and I live in Durham with my wife, Jayne, and dog, Rosie. I am a recent graduate of Duke Divinity School and a certified candidate in the United Methodist Church. I enjoy camping, video games, Disney, photography, painting, crochet, and many other hobbies! I have been working and worshiping with Duke Memorial for the past two years and I am excited to be stepping into this new role as youth minister. Duke Memorial has intentionally been committed to listening to God and the community and has responded in bold acts of service and welcome. This congregation is active in the community and continues to learn and grow together. I have always been passionate about youth ministry. I am thankful to be in relationships with youth and their families because of the transformative joy, hope, and love that occurs within youth ministry. I look forward to bearing witness to the love of Christ alongside this faith community!
Eliza will begin her ministry with us the first week of May.
