The Building and Land Task Force is pleased to announce that the church’s approved 2025 budget includes funding for an engagement with Wesley Community Development Corporation (CDC)!  Wesley CDC, a non-profit organization based in Huntersville, NC, has a successful track record of helping Methodist churches explore how they can best use their land and buildings to further their ministries and missions in the decades to come.
Our Task Force, created by Church Council, looks forward to working with Wesley CDC as it collaborates with our congregation and leadership in the coming months to:
  • Analyze Duke Memorial’s finances and facility use to understand our current and projected future state; and
  • Share this information with the congregation through a series of facilitated small group sessions, and listen to the congregation’s thoughts, concerns, and opinions about how Duke Memorial should respond.
What’s the goal?  We hope the engagement with Wesley CDC will create a process to help our congregation reach consensus on the future use of our land and buildings that is aligned with our mission and vision and is financially sustainable. Our prayerful hope is that Wesley CDC will help us explore together important (and tough!) questions, including the following:
  • What are the implications for our church if we continue to worship and pursue our ministries and missions with the physical infrastructure we have now?
  • Are there changes we could or should make to better meet the future needs of Christ’s vision for the Durham community we serve?
