Lay Leadership Needs your Feedback
This summer, a proposal was brought to the Church Council to consider a Simplified Administrative Structure for our church administrative committees. The Council was overwhelmingly interested in the possibilities offered by this Book of Discipline approved alternative structure and invited the Lay Leadership committee to take the fall to research the proposal and get feedback from members of the congregation.
Jessie Larkins has held several presentations that include answers to the questions: What is a Simplified Administrative Structure? What are its advantages and potential challenges? What are reasons why we should consider a change, especially right now when it feels like there’s a lot of change afoot? What would a Simplified Structure look like at Duke Memorial specifically? And has offered time for reflections and questions as we discern together a best path forward for Duke Memorial UMC.
The feedback gained in these fall sessions will be taken back to Church Council in January and at that time the Council will decide if there is enough support to move forward with the idea. No decision or change in structure would be implemented until after the entire membership of the church is given an opportunity to vote in the form of a Church Conference, a vote that we would not anticipate scheduling until mid-2024. Currently the Lay Leadership committee is doing their work to fill administrative and ministry teams as they do each year. Thank you for all the ways you serve at Duke Memorial UMC!
