Creation Care Art Show

CALL FOR ART
Submissions due April 6! Duke Memorial United Methodist Church invites artists to submit pieces for consideration for our upcoming exhibition, “Call Me Mara: A Redemptive Journey toward Environmental Justice.” The submissions may treat topics of grief and lament in how consumption, pollution, and destruction impact the environment, of hope for the beauty of nature to be respected and protected, and of redemption for all creation; and questions of faith as they relate to environmental justice. The title of the show: Call Me Mara is inspired by the narrative of Naomi in the Bible, and the grief-filled moment when Naomi says "Call Me Mara" because Mara means bitterness. At the end of the book Naomi also returns to being called Naomi, which reflects themes of beauty and hope. Through this call for art, we invite artists to wrestle with the bitterness and despair of an earth that cries out for justice, and equally to celebrate the beauty of nature that is respected and protected. All art forms will be considered for this exhibit, including sculpture, multimedia art, painting, photography, drawing, printmaking, fiber arts, poetry, and especially art made from recycled and reused materials.
