Meet Gair McCullough, Minister of Youth

The past few years have been a time of professional and spiritual discernment for me, starting with a trip to Haiti in 2008, sitting in on classes at Duke Divinity School, working here as Duke Memorial’s administrative assistant, completing Stephen Ministry training, and spending many hours in prayer and conversation with wise friends. Since graduating from UNC-CH (Go Heels!), I have been a volunteer coordinator, high school English teacher, adult educator, facilitator, and consultant in the field of education. I’m excited now to integrate my work life with youth ministry—my joy and passion for many years as a lay person—and I’m most grateful for the opportunity to do so here at Duke Memorial. I love the energy and openness of youth—their questions, playfulness, and courage—and find that they keep my own faith fresh.
My husband Rick Larson and I have two sons—Justin (18), who will be a freshman at St. Olaf College (Northfield, MN) in the fall, and David (10), a rising 6th grader at Githens Middle School. Rick works in sustainable business finance for the Conservation Fund. We all enjoy travel, sports, books, movies, and various creative pursuits, and we look forward to worshiping close to home after “commuting” to Cary Presbyterian since 1994.
You can reach me at 683-3467 extension 108, or by email at gairmcc@dukememorial.org. My office is on the second floor, top of the stairs in the middle building, and I’ll spend lots of time in the youth area around the Soul Café. Please call or stop by and let’s talk about how you fit in to youth ministry—as a young person, parent, mentor, or supporter!
