Duke Memorial Weekday School
In 1950, the Commission of Education of Duke Memorial United Methodist Church established Duke Memorial Weekday School as a nursery school. Over the years, DMWS has grown to include over 160 children ages 2 yrs-Kindergarten and is fully staffed by a paid faculty. The emphasis of DMWS is on establishing an atmosphere of love, support, and security, and on building self-confidence.
The school is in session from September through May from 9:00-12:00 noon, except Kindergarten whose hours are 9:00-1:00 pm. Our curriculum reinforces hands-on activities that are developmentally geared and individually appropriate in a wide variety of materials. The planned daily schedule balances indoor and outdoor activities, quiet and active time, and child-initiated as well as adult-initiated activities.
