Stephen Ministry Team
Stephen Ministers are congregation members trained by Stephen Leaders to offer high-quality, one-to-one Christian care to people going through times of transition. Or, as we like to say, we participate in “Christ caring for people through people.” A Stephen Minister usually provides care to one person at a time, meeting with that person once a week for about an hour. Twice a month, Stephen Ministers gather with their Stephen Leaders for supervision and continuing education. We have a vibrant and active Stephen Ministries team here at Duke Memorial, and we are always looking for more Stephen Ministers! Please contact Blaine Butterworth or Annette Martin for more information.
Sunday Evening Marriage Class
Join Heather and Pete Rodrigues Sunday night February 8th 5:00-7:00pm at Duke Memorial UMC in Whitford Hall for an information session on a 12-week study called The Marriage You Always Wanted by Gary Chapman. You can find more information about Gary Chapman (author of The Five Love Languages) here. For more information about the class please contact Pastor Heather.
Sexuality, Scripture, and the People of God
How can Christians talk and live faithfully in relation to God, each other, and our bodies? One of the goals of this class is to offers a space to reflect on this complex and layered question. We will consider questions like: What is gender? What does Scripture say about human sexuality – including heterosexuality and homosexuality, as well as lives of celibacy? How has the church interpreted sexual ethics, marriage, and gender identity in different ways throughout history? And, perhaps most importantly, what might all of this talk about our bodies and our desires have to do with God’s desire for us and our desire for God? Starting Feb. 9, join us in the Bradshaw Room on Monday evenings at 7pm for this 7 week study. For more information please contact Cullen McKenney.
If you would like to form a new Discipleship Group, or if you would like to learn more about being in one of the groups above, please contact Cullen McKenney. We are always looking for opportunities to build community!
