Children's Ministries at Duke Memorial

Duke Memorial is an exciting place for children to grow in faith and fellowship. We have several opportunities available for children and we invite you to come and join us.

Meet Faith Dickens, Minister of Children

Katie Boone

I am so excited about the opportunity to minister with the children and congregation at Duke Memorial. God has given me a love for children and seeing them grow in their walk with Him and I am honored to have the opportunity to serve as Minister of Children in a church that values their children and seeks to love, nurture, and disciple them.

I graduated from Wingate University in 2008 with a degree in music education. Following my graduation I participated in a year-long urban ministry program called Mission Year. I served my mission year in Camden, New Jersey where I lived in an intentional community with five others. We spent the year learning about issues facing those living in urban poverty, learned from our neighbors, and volunteered our time to organizations in the city. I volunteered at a non-profit organization called Urban Promise where I led a group of 5th and 6th grade students each afternoon in their afterschool program. The year I spent in Camden taught me so much about myself and what it means to be a neighbor to those around me.

Following my year in Camden, I returned to my hometown of Fayetteville, North Carolina where I took a job in a public school teaching music to grades K-5. I was also able to lead a children’s choir, teach a Sunday school class and get involved with many activities at the church where I grew up. I have recently felt a call to ministry and in addition to serving as your minister of children I will also be a student at Campbell Divinity School where I will be working towards a Master of Divinity degree. I am honored to be given this opportunity to use the various experiences I have had to minister to the children at Duke Memorial. I hope to find new, creative ways to minister as I join with the children’s ministry team and engage the entire congregation in ministry to children.
